As was previously announced, we know that The Crown has been renewed for season 3 by Netflix, but the network has visioned the continued success of the show and has in turn merited the historical drama a season 4.

Netflix’s $100 million TV series acquired fantastic viewing figures for its debut season, with a high majority of its viewers coming from overseas (away from UK). It also managed a brilliant 8.7/10 on IMDb & a staggering 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s really no wonder why Netflix haven’t fussed at giving it a double-renewal.

In addition to this great news, Netflix has announced that Olivia Colman will replace Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth in the period drama’s third and fourth seasons. Thoughts?

Based on an award-winning play (“The Audience”) by showrunner Peter Morgan, this lavish, Netflix-original drama chronicles the life of Queen Elizabeth II (Claire Foy) from the 1940s to modern times. The series begins with an inside look at the early reign of the queen, who ascended the throne at age 25 after the death of her father, King George VI. As the decades pass, personal intrigues, romances, and political rivalries are revealed that played a big role in events that shaped the later years of the 20th century.

Season 2 airs on Netflix on 8th December 2017.
