HBO have high hopes for the ‘Game Of Thrones’ prequels – calls scripts an ’embarrassment of riches’

With the rich world building and catalog of incredible story-lines given to us by Game Of Thrones creator George RR Martin, HBO seem in no doubt that the 5 planned spin-offs will succeed.

With potential stories to explore such as Robert’s Rebellion, Aegon’s Conquest, the ‘Dunk & Egg’ stories & the Blackfyre Rebellions to name just a few there is no wonder why HBO chairman and CEO Richard Plepler said what he did to EW.

There are 5 prequel ideas which are in very early stages in development, and we are not certain that all five all make it to air. What we do know it that for 3 of the 5 prequels that are in development, George RR Martin will act as Executive Producer and will work very closely to them.

There is something to note which is that we shouldn’t get too excited for the prequel for a while, as in a past interview, HBO stated that the first prequel won’t release anytime near the Game Of Thrones season 8 finale and it could be ‘years’ until it happens. Let’s look at this as a positive, the more time for them to get it right.

Read what HBO CEO Richard Plepler told EW about the GoT prequel/s in full below:

“… it’s a fantastic group of writers and talent, most of whom have lived inside the Thrones eco-system so are very, very familiar with its intricacies,” he said. “… I think we will find with this embarrassment of [writing] riches an exciting property for us to moves forward with. We are looking some things, I have read a couple of early bibles and I’m excited about what I’ve seen.”

In terms of story-lines, which ones would you most love to see come into fruition?
