Insiders have confirmed that CBS have proactively renewed ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ for a season 2.
Season one is yet to air but, according to insiders, they believe that CBS vision the success of the show and will expect the hype to continue into the second season. It seems as if CBS are doing it now and quickly so they can avoid the same mistakes that occurred with season one earlier this year. Prior to season one (which airs Sept. 14) the drama was involved in creative disputes. One of which was Bryan Fuller, who was forced to abandon/push his role of showrunner amid some ‘strain’ with CBS Studios over the progress of production on the show, due to the fact that Fuller was also juggling the final weeks of shooting and post-production duties on Starz’s hit fantasy drama “American Gods” and prepping a reboot of “Amazing Stories” for NBC.
CBS have not formally confirmed a season 2, and we should not realistically expect them to officially renew until at least September 24th, when season one starts. Sources expect season 2 to air late 2018.
Star Trek: Discovery is the first Star Trek series since Star Trek: Enterprise concluded in 2005. The upcoming series features a new ship, new characters and new missions, while embracing the same ideology and hope for the future that inspired a generation of dreamers and doers. The critically-acclaimed drama releases with a 15-episode season one. Will you be watching?
