‘The Nightly Show’ Cancelled By ITV After Only One Season

The ITV late-night talk show has been cancelled following its one season. The main reason being that it was a good idea in theory that didn’t work in practice.

ITV claimed that aspects of the show confused viewers and it was a hard show for the producers to work with. The 10pm chat-show that replaced ITV’s ‘News at 10’ aired with the ambitious idea that it would change hosts weekly, an idea that annoyed the producers and confused viewers. A few of the presenters that hosted the show are: Gordon Ramsay, Dermot O’Leary, John Bishop, David Walliams, Bradley Walsh & Davina McCall.

Speaking of the now-cancelled chat show, ITV programming chief Kevin Lygo told RadioTimes:

“Did it work? Not really. There’s a million reasons [why]. With hindsight, a different host every week made it very difficult for the production team.

The theory was that if you build the show there would be these fun people you would slot in each week. What happened of course, on week four you’d have a new host who would come on and say ‘I’m not doing that’ and you’d have to reinvent the show.”

Upon further reflection of ‘The Nightly Show’, he said:

“Ten O’clock maybe was too early, particularly for ITV. Maybe it was a bit of a shock [for viewers].”

Did you enjoy this show, or would you rather watch ITV News at 10?
