‘Friends From College’ has been officially renewed for a second season on Netflix.
The announcement came on August 21st and was released directly from Netflix. The new season of the popular comedy-drama will have 8 episodes and will see the return of all of our favorites.
Though Netflix did not give us a release date, from past release patterns we can tell you it will be summer of next year, barring any delays which are unlikely.
Read the announcement below that was taken directly from Netflix:
“Netflix has renewed Friends From College for a second season (eight episodes). In Friends From College, a group of friends from Harvard played by Keegan-Michael Key (Ethan), Cobie Smulders (Lisa), Annie Parisse (Sam), Nat Faxon (Nick), Fred Savage (Max) and Jae Suh Park (Marianne) face down their forties. With interwoven and oftentimes complicated relationships with one another, Friends From College is a comedic exploration of old friendships, former romantic entanglements and balancing adult life with nostalgia for the past. The series was co-created by Nicholas Stoller (Neighbors, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek) and Francesca Delbanco, who also serve as executive producers. Stoller also directs the series and Delbanco serves as a writer.”
We should count ourselves lucky that its got itself a renewal when other shows Netflix have created with a similar budget have been cancelled despite having better viewing figures. Netflix has also been forced into cancelling some of their top shows due to them not performing well (Sense8, The Get Down, Girlboss). The main reason for Netflix’s recent cancellations is that recent reports (Fader, LA Times) suggest that the company could be sitting on more than $20 Billion of debt. However, it’s not all bad with past weeks bringing us the news that they have renewed their biggest show ‘Stranger Things’ for a third season, prior to season 2 even airing!
