‘Sherlock’ could be coming back for a 5th season, but don’t get too excited yet.
The show’s EP’s Sue Vertue and former Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat have teased of a secret project which they are currently working on in London. For the moment, we have no knowledge of this project but it could be Sherlock season 5. The pair were speaking at this years SDCC (San Diego Comic-Con). Read what they said below:
“There is something we are working on in London.” – Sue Vertue
“We do have an answer but we’re not telling what it is,” – Steven Moffat
Co-creator and co-writer Mark Gatiss didn’t rule out the possibility of s season 5 in a recent interview either, but he did say if there is to be one, it’ll be a long way off. One of the biggest problems, he stated, it trying to get the diaries of stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman to match in a way that there would be no conflicting jobs. Read what he said below:
“Everyone’s really very up for it; it’s just so very difficult to schedule everyone. It’s just so hard to get Benedict and Martin’s diaries to align. And there’s always the Fawlty Towers principle of just leaving it where it is. I think in a few years time [if] we came back and said, ‘Shall we do another one?’ I think everyone would be very happy to.”
The final episode aired on 15th January and could prove to be a fitting end for the series as a whole, if they want to follow in the footsteps of comedy Fawlty Towers, as moffat said above, meaning they would just end it now and not drag it out and make it lose its special feel.
