Vikings Review – “Great But Nothing Special”
Vikings is a TV show by HISTORY set in the Viking era and it follows the adventures of the great, famous viking, Ragnar Lodbrok (Named Ragnar Lothbrok in the show for some reason). The show definitely exceeded all expectations of it and has a healthy 8.6/10 rating on IMDB.
As much as I love this series, it does not come at all close when comparing it to the likes of Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings. I do not like to compare them anyway, you would not have Game of Thrones on the HISTORY channel. I have found that people neglect viewing it because they have heard it’s a ‘Poor Mans’ version of other shows! I recommend you watch it, the acting is fantastic, the scenery is beautiful, the characters are likable and the battles are awesome!
However all of the pros do come at a price. When it comes to historical accuracy, Vikings is pretty terrible, so if you are a historian I would not watch this as you would be tearing your hair out. That is the only major con I can think of, and even that’s not that bad, you can just think of the show as a fantasy. Maybe another is that the Scandinavian accent in some of the characters is very poor (Mainly Lagertha and the younger version of Bjorn) but you can forgive this as they are great actors.
Overall, I think you should be watching Vikings, especially now Game of Thrones Season 6 is ending and you might not have anything to watch. You’ll love it more if your into blood, gore and tense battles.
Oh and come on, how can you not love this:
